No Interest Loans Scheme

The Muscular Dystrophy Queensland Community Purse provides access to credit without the burden of interest charges to individuals and families living with Muscular Dystrophy and other neuromuscular conditions, who are experiencing financial hardship.

What are the loans for?

Loans may be used to purchase essential items such as medical equipment, educational needs. Loans may also be used for household items such as a refrigerator, washing machine or air conditioner. Items purchased should be an asset and improve the quality of life of the individual or family. Loans cannot be provided for recurring living expenses such as rent, groceries payment of bills or debt consolidation.


In order to be eligible for a loan, applicants must:

  • Be a resident of Queensland
  • Be a client of Muscular Dystrophy Queensland
  • Be experiencing financial hardship
  • Have a surplus in their budget to be able to repay the loan

Loan Limits

Loans range from $200 to a maximum of $2000 and are available for terms of 2 to 24 months.

Loans are for one transaction only but you may be eligible to apply for an additional loan once your existing loan has been repaid in full.

Loans are interest free with repayment plans to suit each individual’s financial circumstances. There are no fees, interest charges or late payment penalties.

Privacy and Confidentiality

The Muscular Dystrophy Queensland Purse is bound by Muscular Dystrophy Queensland’s privacy policy and relevant state legislation. All information regarding the loan applicant and their application will be kept in the strictest confidence at all times and will not be shared with other employees or volunteers of Muscular Dystrophy Queensland outside of the Loans Assessment Committee.
