Harley Davidson Raises Over $380,000 For Rare Diseases

Over the last 24 years, Brisbane Harley Owners Club have tirelessly raised funds for Queensland families living with muscular dystrophy. The HOG Charity Ride departs from Australia’s oldest Harley Davidson dealership, Morgan & Wacker who always support the charitable event. 2017 was no exception as the overall funds raised passed $380,000!

Brisbane Harley Owners Group (HOG) spokesperson Kim Christofis says: “It is a fantastic event that our club looks forward to immensely. More than 100 Brisbane HOG members donate their time, fuel, their bike and back seat to Muscular Dystrophy Queensland. The charity sells tickets to daring members of the public for a day-long riding experience.   Now in its 24th year the ride is has become part of Brisbane HOG DNA with riders and many pillions returning year after year”.  Muscular Dystrophy Queensland’s CEO Helene Frayne commented on the ride “Previous participants in the ride have had the experience of a lifetime and enjoyed being able to help Queenslanders with muscular dystrophy, many of whom can’t jump on the back of a bike. Our charity relies on funds raised from events like this to provide services and support to our 500+ clients in Queensland. The HOG Charity Ride is a great way for us to help our clients have a greater quality of life, and for passengers and bikers to have a wild time.”

The wild riders enjoyed striking venues this year, being taken through Mapleton’s picturesque The Falls Farm and enjoying a raffle for a weekend getaway at Smith House and also the Oceanview Estate Winery. All enjoyed the great escapes while raising money for a great cause.

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland supports children, teenagers and adults throughout Queensland who live with inherited neuromuscular conditions – a group of rare, incurable conditions that continually weaken muscles over time.  The most aggressive forms appear in early childhood and create profound disability.  Muscular Dystrophy Queensland works directly with clients, offering practical support from diagnosis to end-of-life, and advocates in the community for the basic needs of people living with these conditions to be met.
