Become a Community Member

At Muscular Dystrophy Queensland we don’t see you as just a client. You are a valued member of our community. We’re here to support you through every stage of life. We’d like to keep in touch with you, to understand your needs as they evolve and provide you with ongoing access to our range of services. And so, we ask you to register with us.

Can I register as a community member?

If you live in Queensland and have muscular dystrophy or a similar condition you are welcome to register with us. Registration can be completed quickly. We simply ask you to confirm:

  • your name and contact information,
  • your preferences about the way we manage your information
  • your preferences for who we communicate with about you and your services. This might include members of your family, your carers and providers.
  • Confirmation of your diagnosis, a provisional diagnosis or that you are in the process of being diagnosed.

I don’t have muscular dystrophy. Can you help me?

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland wish to retain our specialisation in providing services for people who live with progressive muscle wasting conditions resulting in a disorder of the neuromuscular system. While many of these conditions fall under the umbrella of “muscular dystrophy”, some do not.

We have compiled a list of the conditions we commonly support but understand how rare these conditions are.  If you have been diagnosed with a rare condition that is similar in the progressive nature of muscular dystrophy and feel you would benefit from our support, please enquire about whether we can support you.

Conditions we commonly support

  • Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD)
  • Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease (CMT)
  • Congenital muscular dystrophy (CMD)
  • Congenital myopathies (CM)
  • Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD)
  • Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD)
  • Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSH or FSHD)
  • Friedreich’s ataxia (FA)
  • Inclusion body myositis (IBM)
  • Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD)
  • Mitochondrial disease
  • Myotonic dystrophy (DM) and congenital myotonic dystrophy (CDM)
