Red Bow Month | Muscular Dystrophy Queensland

Red Bow Appeal

Red Bow Month

Across the state, we celebrate Red Bow Month throughout March to increase community awareness of muscular dystrophy and continuously improve vital services for people living with muscular dystrophy and similar neuromuscular conditions.

Red Bow Day

Our Red Bow campaign started in 1994, with All Hallows’ School Year 11 students still converging on the Brisbane CBD for two hours before classes begin on first Friday of March each year. The girls collect donations and raise awareness of muscular dystrophy.

Red bows feature prominently throughout our campaign, as symbols of resilience, and today activities run throughout the month of March for all of our community to join in. You can create your own Make a Move 4MD fundraiser anytime or host a Red Bow Tea4MD and fundraise throughout March to support people living with muscular dystrophy and similar conditions.

Why is Red Bow Month important?

Our Red Bow Month celebrations form part of Muscular Dystrophy Queensland’s most important fundraising and awareness campaign each year.

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland is very grateful to all those raising funds in their community and particularly to the All Hallow’s girls, who so enthusiastically encourage so many City workers to give generously. It’s only because of your wonderful support that Muscular Dystrophy Queensland is able to continue to provide vital services and support for local people living with neuromuscular conditions and their families, throughout every life stage.

It is estimated there are approximately 41,000 people in Australia living with neuromuscular conditions, some 8,000 living in Queensland with a form of this incurable, progressive condition. The prevalence of neuromuscular diseases is at least as high as Parkinson’s disease worldwide and twice that of Multiple Sclerosis.

Each year another 40 families receive the heartbreaking news that the disease has appeared in their family. We are not just there for people living with this progressive condition, we also support families and care givers who struggle with its effects on the whole family unit.

You can help make a difference by:

Your donation, large or small, will enable us to support some of our most vulnerable community members when they need it most. Your regular gift, or lasting gift in your will, enables us the flexibility to plan, for now and for the future, and to respond to unexpected needs.

Please give generously.
