Social Work

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland provides ongoing support for individuals and families navigating life with a neuromuscular condition. Our qualified social worker works closely with clients, families and carers to address emotional, practical and social impacts, and to help manage the broader effects of a progressive condition.

We recognise that neuromuscular conditions affect more than just physical health. Our social worker assists clients in overcoming challenges, strengthening wellbeing, and building long-term support networks tailored to each family’s needs.

Services provided by our social worker

Support is tailored to each person’s unique needs and goals and may include:

  • Counselling and emotional support to help manage stress, grief, adjustment and life transitions 
  • Support for families and carers, with a focus on strengthening resilience and family wellbeing
  • Planning and support during times of crisis or major life changes

Our social worker is experienced in supporting people through key transition points such as starting school, entering the workforce, changing levels of independence or planning for ageing. The service is available to individuals and families across Queensland, delivered in person, over the phone, or via telehealth.
