Services for Children

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland understands that children are not just little adults when it comes to providing services which best suit their individual needs. Our organisation supports community members throughout their lives and so we are continually building our capacity to provide high quality services for children with neuromuscular conditions.

New Diagnosis and Ongoing Information and Support

Knowledgeable staff are only a phone call or email away when you need them. We are there if your child has just been diagnosed with a neuromuscular condition or when you need us at any point in their life.

Our people

Several of our allied health staff have extended experience in working with children and they understand that every child is different and has an individual presentation of their condition. Evidence is strong that early intervention is necessary for children to reach developmental milestones.

Services for Children

NDIS and Children

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland is a registered provider of services under the NDIS Early Childhood Approach (ECA), which means that we can provide our services to children.  Principally people seek services from the allied health team.

We are also developing Key Worker services under the ECA. The Key Worker is the primary point of contact for parents, family members and their child when they are receiving Early Childhood Approach support. The Key Worker will provide information, support and advice and assist with the delivery and implementation of strategies that promote the child’s development and management of their condition.

Achievement of educational outcomes

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland has recently received new funding to provide allied health services in schools aimed at meeting the educational outcomes of children. This means that in nominated places in Queensland, our allied health team can visit students in State, Catholic and independent schools.

If you are interested in finding out about how to access services for a child with a neuromuscular condition, please contact us through our Infoline on 1800 676 364. We look forward to hearing from you.
