MDQ welcomes new Patron

15 October 2024

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland (MDQ) is most pleased to announce that the Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young PSM, has kindly agreed to be Patron of our organisation.

The Governor has a role in unifying and promoting Queensland and its organisations by undertaking activities that assist, promote, encourage, and recognise Queenslanders across a wide range of community interests.

Our CEO, Penny Deavin, advised that the acceptance of vice-regal patronage is at the discretion of the Governor for worthy organisations and events that aim to improve the lives of Queenslanders, such as MDQ.

“The Governor seeks to be an active patron by providing acknowledgement, encouragement, and community visibility in a range of ways to promote the important work that we do within our Queensland neuromuscular community,” Penny said.

“MDQ looks forward to working with Her Excellency and providing updates on such activities that may include events at Government House, attendance at selected key MDQ events, and messages of support.”

MDQ’s CEO and Board would also like to thank outgoing Patron, Emeritus Professor John Pearn AO AM, for all the wonderful support he has provided since joining the organisation in 2016.

“Professor Pearn has had a long-distinguished career as a paediatrician, surgeon, military physician, and academic and MDQ cannot thank him enough for the expertise he has brought to our organisation as Patron,” Penny said.

“Our MDQ Board would also very much like to extend their thanks to Professor Pearn for his ongoing support of our wider Queensland neuromuscular community.”

MDQ is honoured to also work with our ambassadors who, together with our Patron, most generously give their time, energy, and passion to publicly recognise the contribution our organisation makes, to help enhance our profile, and to grow awareness within our wider Queensland community.
