Muscular Dystrophy Queensland (MDQ) is excited to announce rising Australian actor, Eloise Rothfield has agreed to pick up the phone and get moving to help raise awareness and funds for local people living with neuromuscular conditions as their new charity ambassador.

Acclaimed for her breakout role, Eloise played the young Shelly Huffman when she is first diagnosed with muscular dystrophy in Netflix’s Logie award-winning Boy Swallows Universe limited series based on Trent Dalton’s award-winning novel.

When researching for the role, Eloise could find little representation in film or television of anyone living with neuromuscular conditions and the experience made her determined to find ways to support.

“People living with such neuromuscular conditions, like many living with a disability, are often excluded from participating in many areas of life”, Eloise said.

“When MDQ reached out I was honoured to join as an ambassador as they provide vital services, including with events like Ride Walk Roll, that enable people living with neuromuscular conditions to fulfil their potential to live the lives they choose,” she said.

Eloise and her family joined Ride Walk Roll participants at the community launch at the Redcliffe Marina, Scarborough 10:00am-12:30pm on Saturday, 31 August 2024.

CEO Penny Deavin said MDQ has been hosting its annual Ride Walk Roll event since 2013 to raise awareness and funds to provide support and services for all local Queenslanders living with muscle wasting conditions and their families, throughout every life stage.

“It is just one way everyone can get involved to make a difference and thanks must go to our MDQ’s 2024 Ride Walk Roll major sponsors, Incito, along with Eloise who really help make such events possible for our wonderful neuromuscular community”, Penny said.

“Ride Walk Roll is a fully inclusive event allowing participants to choose how they would like to move, track their progress, and get their families and friends involved to raise funds throughout September”, she said.
