Muscular Dystrophy Queensland Infoline

Muscular Dystrophy Queensland is committed to providing specialist whole-of-life services and support for Queenslanders with neuromuscular conditions.  Thanks to our supporters, our Charitable programs exist to fill the gaps for our neuromuscular community that other funding doesn’t cover. One of these programs is our Infoline.

Our Infoline provides knowledgeable information and emotional support to the neuromuscular community. It is available for anyone regardless of if they have accessed our services in the past. The recipient may be a person living with muscular dystrophy or similar condition, a family member, a service provider or a professional.


Community Members

Suzi, our friendly Intake Officer, has taken over 80 enquiries already in 2022 on our Infoline. In speaking with our community, she has covered topics including support around a new diagnosis for individuals or family members, equipment or service enquiries, clinical trial questions and helping search for community connection.

We’ve supported many people living with progressive muscle wasting conditions to complete their NDIS application and successfully access their first NDIS Plan. Often a great first step is to call our Infoline and discuss your own situation. Suzi and the team have been able to help 17 clients with their NDIS applications in 2022, including attending planning meetings along with 3 applications accepted by NDIS that had previously been rejected. As a client, you may be eligible for our free NDIS support.

Suzi was recently contacted by one of our clients who had managed their condition for many years. However, a recent progression had impacted their mobility and ability to care for themself, their home and to participate in their community. The process of applying for the NDIS was quite daunting and confronting but they worked through the application process together and Suzi was able to offer support at their NDIS planning meeting.

Another client who had previously been rejected by the NDIS came to Suzi for help recently in the hope to reapply. Suzi went through their previous application with them and identified some issues. Suzi helped the client to collate and simplify the information and supporting evidence to include with the new application. The application was successful, and she helped prepare for the planning meeting and acted as a phone support during the planning meeting.
